Bird walks on the Palouse Spring 2025 registration

Townsend's Warbler, Rose Creek Preserve
Townsend’s Warbler at Rose Creek Preserve | Casey Lowder

Join local birders on walks in a variety of habitats and experience the beautiful bird life of our region. Guides from the Palouse Audubon Society, Birding @ WSU, and Paradise Audubon Society (UI’s student chapter) will provide tips on finding and identifying birds. Botanical and non-feathered wildlife will also be enjoyed.

Walks are intended for all skill levels and usually cover 1-3 miles and take 1.5-4 hours but can be adjusted to the group’s schedule. All ages are welcome for most walks but those especially suited for kids are marked with *.

Please register below and we will put you in touch with the guide and provide directions to the starting location.

Which dates are you interested in joining the bird walk? Walks especially suited for kids are marked with *(required)

Casey will be in contact to confirm and set up carpooling.
Details on locations are linked at the bottom of the page.

Rock Lake field trip with RJ Baltierra

A note from RJ on the details of this extended local trip:
The main focus will be the flooded fields around Ewan, then Rock Lake, then Gravel Pit Ponds and then Glorfield road. Mainly looking for spring arrivals, primarily shorebirds and waterfowl, but also songbirds too. Depending on how those areas go, how long we take and the weather, I figure we can decide if we want to go further, either head up to Hole in the Ground for forest species, or go out into the scablands to like Texas Lake and Jordan Knott road etc. 7am depature if leaving from Pullman, meeting at the Walmart parking lot.
